FAQ

When will I recieve my gallery?

I love to edit, it's my favorite part! You can expect a preview for your wedding or session within 48 hours on my Facebook or Instagram page! So be sure to click that follow button. Full wedding galleries are between 6-8 weeks and all other sessions can be up to 3-6 weeks during peak busy season. I always try my best to get you your photos as soon as possible.

What can I expect at a session?

Family sessions with me are relaxed. For the first couple of minutes we will do more traditional posing and give your children time to get to know me. Then we move on to the more candid and fun shots so I can really capture you and your family and all of your personalities. As far as couples and seniors go, I come with lots of ideas and we collaborate to make the best outcomes. I can customize your session to make them everything you want! As always, I want your input. If you have an idea or vision, please feel free to reach out and we can discuss on how to make it happen!

Where is my session?

I have been around to quite a few locations during my time as a photographer, so if you need ideas I am here to suggest. I am alway up to explore a new location if you know of one. Also, think about what the overall "look" you are going for is as that will help with choosing a location.

Do I deliver all the photos taken from a session?

I typically take 200-300 images for most sessions. However, you won't receive all of them. I go through each image and determine which images are the best and edit those and put them into your final gallery.
For weddings I typically take anywhere from one thousand plus photos. Each wedding package has a different amount of photos that will be provided in your gallery. I follow the same process. I go through every single image and l delete the ones with eyes that are closed or the lighting is not the best. I only want to provide the best photos for my clients.

What equipment do you use?

I shoot with a Nikon Z6ii. My main lens is a Tamron 35mm or my Nikon Nikkor 24-70mm. I also use a mix of other Nikon lenses as well.

Do you shoot in JPEG, Small Raw, or Large Raw?

I shoot all of my sessions in RAW as it allows me to capture the best quality images as possible.

Do you touch up all the images in our image download?

Yes I do. Every image I deliver is post produced with my unique signature style of post-production. This involves color correction, exposure adjustment, selective black and white processing, clarity adjustments, tone-mapping, and other corrections.

What happens if we go over the contracted amount of time?

I understand that not everything goes as planned during a wedding. I will never pack up before the contracted time, and moreover, I am not leaving on the dot when the contracted time is up. Instead, I will ask you at the end of your contracted time whether or not you would like to extend. If you would like me to stay, we will charge the rates specified in your contract rounded to the closest 30-minute increment.

What rights do I have to the digital prints?

You have the right to reprint images whenever you want. However, you may not sell your images for profit or publish your images without the written consent of Derek Austin Photography. Also, you may not alter any of the images.

Do you charge a deposit?

Yes, I do charge a deposit for all sessions. The deposit is half the cost of the session and is due upon booking. (Wedding deposits will be specified in your contract)

Are deposits refundable?

No, all deposits are final. The only time a deposit will be refunded is if me, the photographer has to cancel a session and I cannot reach an agreement with you to reschedule. However, cancelation due to weather will not constitute a refund whether the cancelation is initiated by the client or photographer.

What happens if it starts raining?

Unfortunately, if we are in the middle of a session I will have to put my camera away as water and camera equipment do not mix well. We can hold out and see if the rain goes away but if it continues we will attempt to schedule another session for the time that was lost.

Weather cancelation Policy

If the client or photographer initiate a cancelation due to inclement weather, any payments made after the deposit will be refunded. However, the deposit will not be refunded.
